The number of Canadian domestic publishers of printed music as well as their total production seems to be relatively small compared to other industrialized countries. Out of this group, the largest proportion are those individuals or small home grown firms whose output varies anywhere from about a single to dozens of works per year. However, there are approximately 6-10 commercial firms who produce music in print on a regular basis but also engage in a lot of importation. Thus, it is estimated that for the major publishers there is a close to 100% coverage and for the larger and continual changing group of smaller firms the coverage will probably be in the neighbourhood of 60-70%.
