The Danish ISMN Agency has been operating since 1996/1997. The Agency is established with the Royal Library. The Library has been appointed because its Music Department publishes the Danish National Bibliography in Music each year. It registers about 300 newly published items of printed music, submitted by Danish music publishers under the terms of the legal deposit law.

The introduction of the ISMN met with a favourable reception in the country, but it is worth mentioning that the willingness to join was most distinct among minor publishers. This is most likely due to the fact that the implementation of the system did not require many changes in their routine.

Approximately 40% of the music publishers active on the market are using ISMNs. 1082 ISMNs have been assigned to published items so far.
