The Directory

The Music Publishers' International ISMN Directory (M-PIID) was edited by the International ISMN Agency, Berlin, and published by K. G. Saur Verlag, Munich.

The M-PIID could be used to quickly find the publisher and the country of origin for a given ISMN. The directory listed addresses and telecommunication numbers of nearly 18,000 music publishers and similar institutions linked to the production of sheet music from 99 countries and organisations. It was divided into three sections: geographical, alphabetical, and numerical.

The M-PIID was the most comprehensive up-to-date reference tool for the printed music trade and the library world. The 5th edition appeared in January 2004. It included additional information about over 1,700 digital suppliers of sheet music operating in the World Wide Web.

Current situation

The cooperation with K. G. Saur publishers concerning the M-PIID was discontinued in 2005. Instead, a list of allocated ISMNs is made available on CD for internal use of the International ISMN Agency and the national ISMN agencies.
